Responsible Digital Citizenship: Building a Safer, Stronger Philippines
In observance of Independence Day, PLDT Home’s OnlineAlerto initiative has partnered with the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group to conduct educational tours across university campuses. The program aims to cultivate Digital Bayanihan, encouraging students and citizens to verify information and protect personal data against cyber threats. The initiative emphasizes that true digital freedom requires confidence and security rather than mere access to platforms. Key safety habits promoted include verifying sources before sharing content, securing accounts with strong passwords, and reporting suspicious activity. These measures shift online safety from a personal burden to a shared community effort known as Digital Bayanihan. Young Filipinos are positioned to lead this movement due to their tech-savviness and social influence. The campaign has already reached major campuses including Far Eastern University, Universidad de Manila, and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Through these campus caravans, students are empowered to become vigilant digital citizens and active protectors of their communities. Launched in 2022, OnlineAlerto has grown into a thriving Facebook community of more than 77,000 members dedicated to promoting digital awareness. PLDT Home remains committed to fostering a secure digital environment through ongoing education and strategic partnerships. True patriotism is framed as actively protecting the freedoms Filipinos enjoy today, including the right to live safely in the digital world.
