ChatGPT itself can't directly edit or extend images as it's primarily a text-based model. However, tools like DALL-E, which are also developed by OpenAI, can perform image outpainting to extend beyond the original borders of an image.
You can use ChatGPT to generate prompts for image generation models that support outpainting, but ChatGPT cannot modify images on its own.
I've tried asking ChatGPT to extend images, and it can't do that. But combining it with DALL-E or Stable Diffusion's outpainting features works well.
To clarify, ChatGPT-4 with vision capabilities can analyze images you provide, but it doesn't create new image content or extend images. For image extension, you'll want to use specialized image generation models.
