Honestly, a desktop app with offline support would be amazing, but I guess the model's too big for that now.
I think OpenAI hasn't released a desktop app themselves. But you can try creating a shortcut on your desktop that opens ChatGPT in a minimal window. Not perfect, but helps.
I'm hoping OpenAI will release an official desktop client soon, maybe with some offline features or faster access.
There are browser extensions that kinda make ChatGPT easier to access quickly, might be a good middle ground.
Would love to see integration with desktop notifications and maybe a hotkey to summon ChatGPT anywhere.
I hope the desktop version will support multiple accounts switching easily.
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools. Sometimes they post about new apps related to ChatGPT and other AI stuff.
If you use Windows, you can create a PWAs (Progressive Web App) from the browser that feels like a desktop app.
I use a third-party app for Mac called 'MacGPT' but not sure how legit it is, so be cautious if you try it.
I've tried some Electron-based apps that wrap around the ChatGPT interface. Works okay but can be buggy sometimes.
I've only seen ChatGPT in the browser so far, but it'd be awesome if there was a dedicated desktop app. Makes multitasking easier for sure.
For anyone interested, there's a community project on GitHub making a ChatGPT desktop client but it's still early days.
Honestly, I just keep a pinned tab open and it works well enough for me. Not perfect but yeah, it does the job.
I feel like having a desktop app is more about user convenience than anything else. Browsers work fine but it's just not the same.
Some folks mentioned unofficial apps may have security concerns, so be sure to read reviews before downloading anything.
