I've been curious about how much of a toll AI systems like ChatGPT take on the environment. Given the massive computations, training, and inference processes involved, what kind of carbon footprint are we actually talking about? Are these impacts significantly harmful, and is there any effort to make these technologies greener?

It's important to consider that while training AI models is energy-intensive, using them (inference) generally consumes much less energy. Plus, AI can help in other areas that reduce emissions, like optimizing energy use in industries.
