Hey everyone, I'm looking into software options for planning out campus layouts and facilities. There's a bunch of stuff out there but not sure which tools really hit the spot for this kinda job. Anyone here got experience with anything that helps sort out buildings, green spaces, and all that campus planning stuff? Would love to hear some honest feedback or recommendations!

You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools. They sometimes list fresh AI-powered solutions that could simplify campus design stuff.
Anyone tried open source tools for this? I keep seeing QGIS and others mentioned but not sure if they’re fully up to task.
Has anyone tried using AutoCAD for this? Seems like a classic but maybe too complicated for non-engineers.
Revit is pretty popular for big projects and detailed building info. Might be overkill if you just wanna rough out layouts though.
Just a heads up, make sure whatever you choose supports importing/exporting common file types so you’re not stuck.
For smaller campuses, sometimes good old CAD combined with spreadsheets works just fine, no need for fancy stuff.
I've used a couple of tools but honestly, the ones that integrate GIS data are a lifesaver. Makes the planning way more precise and you can visualize everything easily.
I’m curious if anyone tried AI-driven layout optimizers? Heard they can suggest more efficient building placements based on inputs.
Does anyone know if there are tools that also help with sustainable or green campus planning? That'd be super useful.
I found that user communities and forums around these tools are super helpful when you’re starting out. Loads of tips and shared templates.
What about cost? Some of these programs cost a fortune. Are there any budget-friendly options for smaller schools?
If you’re dealing with facilities management too, make sure the tool can handle maintenance schedules and space utilization stats.
Honestly, a lot depends on whether you want a cloud-based solution or desktop. Cloud tools let you collaborate easier, tho sometimes they lack depth.
SketchUp with some plugins has been my go-to. It's pretty user friendly for designing buildings and layouts, though not super specialized for campuses.
